KAZAN. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Tatarstan's law enforcement officials are conducting a special operation in Kazan to detain criminals, Irina Nizhelskaya, spokesman for the republic's Interior Ministry, told Interfax.
"Criminals have been encircled on the first floor of Building 25 on Ulitsa Khimikov. They are offering armed resistance. There is exchange of fire going on," she said.
Officials from the Federal Security service's Department for Tatarstan, the Interior Ministry, and the Emergency Situations Ministry are involved in this special operation, she said.
The men are believed to be radical Islamists.
