U.S. wants to further relations with Russia, but "it takes two to tango," U.S. ambassador tells Interfax

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - The United States' general approach to Russia will remain but new ideas could come, said U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul.

"Because the president has won, the general approach, I suspect, will stay," he said in an interview with Interfax on Wednesday.

Asked about the idea of "reset" in Russian-American relations, McFaul said, "First, it takes two to tango." "It's not only up to us, it's what the Russian government would want," he said. "So we'll need to explore that matter when we have a new government," he added.

Second, "in all two-term presidencies there are always changes in the administration. We'll have some new people. They will come with new ideas and their different kinds of approaches," McFaul said.

"Many of us who were involved before will be involved again. I expect more continuity," he said.

McFaul's interview will be posted in full on the www.interfax.com Web site.
