BAKU. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan has sent a note to Turkmenistan demanding the release of four compatriots who were aboard of a ship stopped by the Turkmen side.
"We have sent a note to Turkmenistan demanding the release of our citizens," press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told Interfax on Friday.
He said that a probe into the issue continues and talks are under way with the Turkmen side. "Depending on the outcome corresponding steps will be taken," he said.
Meanwhile, Avaz Babayev, head of the Globus-5 company that chartered the detained ship, told ANS channel that Turkmenistan's claim that the ship had violated its sea border was groundless.
The TV channel said that the ship Uran with four Azeris aboard was detained on October 21 fishing in neutral waters 35 kilometers away from the territorial waters of Turkmenistan.
