Premature to remove checkpoints from North Caucasian roads - Kolokoltsev

MOSCOW. Dec 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Interior Ministry is unable to remove checkpoints from highways in a number of southern regions because of the North Caucasian situation, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev told President Vladimir Putin's election agents on Sunday.

"We analyze the possibility of the reduction of checkpoints but current circumstances make it impossible to close them down right now," he said.

"It would be premature to speak of the disbandment of these units," the minister said.
