Russian, Palestinian diplomats discuss situation in Mideast

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the Ambassador of Palestine to Russia Fayed Mustafa met on Monday to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli settlement.

"The meeting focused on the situation in the Middle East with emphasis on the course of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement after Palestine obtained the status of a non-member UN observer state. It also highlighted a number of other burning issues on the regional agenda, above all, the situation in and around Syria," the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

Both sides "expressed their mutual concern to deepen Russian-Palestinian political dialogue." The Russian side reaffirmed its willingness to actively assist in the formation of the Palestinian statehood.

The meeting took place at the request of the Palestinian side.
