MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Military investigators have opened a criminal case against Maj. Gen. Kanamat Botashev, presumably responsible for the crash of a Su-27UB fighter in June 2012, the Investigative Committee told Interfax.
"It has been established that Botashev, who was in charge of the tactical flight training, decided, contrary to the established rules, to take part in a weather reconnaissance flight without having undergone the necessary training and without having a flight permit for a Su-27," the Investigative Committee said.
"During the flight, Botashev took control of the plane and started performing unplanned aerobatic maneuvers. While performing a tailslide maneuver, the fighter entered a spin," it said.
