MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces' refusal to enter a dialogue with the Syrian government leads to a deadlock, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We are sure that this is a deadlock position, which will continue to degrade. The external opposition, including that represented by the National Coalition, will be unable to influence the development of the armed hostilities inside Syria," Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with UN/Arab League Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in Moscow on Saturday.
Moscow would like to avoid this scenario, Lavrov said. "Therefore, we have sent signals through our partners, through our U.S. and European counterparts, and our partners in the region to revise this unconstructive policy and support the principles declared in the Geneva communique," he said.
Lavrov pointed out that the Geneva accords presume the establishment of a transition government based on agreements between the opposition and the incumbent authorities.
