UN/Arab League envoy, Russian, U.S. diplomats favor political resolution of Syria crisis

GENEVA. Jan 14 (Interfax) - UN and Arab League Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi announced on Friday that a meeting with Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister and presidential envoy for the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in Geneva had ended.

He did not say whether the parties reached any agreement.

Brahimi said the three agreed only that the crisis in Syria cannot be resolved in a military way and emphasized the need for reaching a political solution based on the Geneva accords of June 30, 2012.

Asked when the Syria crisis could be solved, Brahimi replied that he was not sure that the parties were close to any solution.
