MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the absence of Russian citizens among foreigners who were taken hostage on an Algerian oil field.
"Moscow resolutely condemns this new criminal action against Algerian and foreign citizens. We reaffirm our solidarity with friendly Algeria's efforts to eradicate the terrorist threat," the ministry said in a commentary on Thursday.
"Two people, including one British citizen, were killed and another six were injured during the shootout [in eastern Algeria on January 16]. Russians were not injured or taken hostage," it said.
