MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Komsomolsk-on-Amur Gagarin Aircraft Plant will build 12 multi-role fighters Sukhoi Su-35S this year, a source in the defense industry told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"The Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant will enlarge the Su-35S output within a few years. Only two fighters were built in 2011 and six last year. It is planned to build 12 fighters this year," the source said.
The plant is implementing a state contract on the delivery of 48 Su-35S fighters before 2015. State tests of the new aircraft continue. Another state contract will be signed for 2016-2020.
Su-35S is supposed to become the main fighter of the Russian Air Force. About 90 aircraft will be procured before 2020.
Su-35 is a profoundly modernized super-maneuverable multi-role fighter of generation 4++. It uses fifth-generation technologies, which makes it superior to fighters of a similar class.
