Several militants killed in Kabardino-Balkaria - source

NALCHIK. Jan 25 (Interfax) - The house in Chegem in Kabardino-Balkaria, where several terrorists were trapped and some of them killed, has caught fire, a source in the republic's law enforcement services told Interfax.

"A fire has broken out in the house where the militants were trapped. Two or three of them have been killed," he said.

Reports said earlier that security forces and police had trapped militants from the southwestern sector of the terrorist organization active in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Following talks police led a woman and two children out of the house to safety. The militants were ordered to surrender, but they opened intensive gunfire against police. Police started storming the building.

A counter-terrorist operation regime has been declared in the part of Chegem where the operation is on.
