MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - The Russian defense sector will become a source of technological innovation in military and civilian industries within the next five years, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at an expanded government meeting on Thursday.
"The defense sector will get a boost to become a source of technological innovation in military and civilian industries," he said, while introducing key areas of the government work before 2018.
"R&D capacities will be created for building prospective armaments and military hardware, and plants will be modernized to make competitive serial products," the premier said.
"Aircraft and ship building, radio electronic, aerospace and atomic energy industries will be the focus of current programs," he added.
