BERLIN. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Western politicians are not rejecting the idea of integration on former Soviet soil, but they only seek to understand the essence of these processes, Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov said.
"I do not think that the West rejects this idea [integration within the CIS]. I have met with many European politicians. None of them is opposed to the idea of the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. They have simply asked questions: what are they, what political and economic components do they have?", he said at a session of the Berlin Eurasian Club.
"I reiterate that during my contacts, I have not heard any radical opinions and concerns that some politically unacceptable things are allegedly happening in our space," Idrisov said.
"In my opinion, politicians just want to better understand the nature of our integrated associations, and their wish is that whatever the countries of the Customs Union and the fledgling Eurasian Economic Union do, their steps should not close this space, but should keep it open and create even better forms for cooperation with countries outside it," the Kazakh minister said.
