Russian Gen. Staffa tests new inter-fleet control system

MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Navy's commanders and personnel are prepared to perform ocean missions assigned, the Defense Ministry's press service reported after a ten-day inter-fleet drill in the Black and Mediterranean seas.

"A new inter-fleet control system has been successfully tested. The General Staff as the main control body, coordinated the naval force in a real-time mode using the most advanced automated control system. Control means demonstrated stable and reliable performance, guaranteeing information exchanges amid intensive jamming, the press service said in a statement received by Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"The goal of the maneuvers was to demonstrate Russia's naval presence, military force and resolve to use it in the offshore maritime zone. This goal has been achieved. Such maneuvers will be held regularly," the statement says.

The Defense Ministry also said that the force of specialized and support warships covered a distance of more than 21,000 miles, and conducted 33 exercises and 29 live firing drills using missile, artillery and antisubmarine warfare systems.
