Ignatenko's indictment flaws may have international consequences - lawyer

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - Old charges brought against former Moscow regional first deputy prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko may have international legal consequences, lawyer Alexander Asnis told reporters.

He noted that his client had been extradited from Poland on the condition the fraud charge was dropped.

"But old charges were brought against Ignatenko today. He is charged with acceptance of a bribe and fraud. I presume this violation may have international legal consequences," Asnis said.

Ignatenko has spent almost a year in a solitary cell in Poland and now experiences certain communication problems, the lawyer said.

"I cannot say he has forgotten Russian but it is sort of difficult for him to talk," Asnis said.

In his words, Ignatenko is being kept at the Lefortovo detention facility.

"Ignatenko refused to testify today. He had no time to study the case volumes. He will study them in a week, we will elaborate a position and he will be ready to testify," the lawyer said.

He also said he was unable to provide details due to the gag order.
