Progress M-16M spaceship debris sink in Pacific

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Debris of the Russian Progress M-16M resupply ship unlatched from the International Space Station (ISS) several hours ago and sunk in the Pacific Ocean in the area dubbed "the Spaceship Cemetery".

"Progress M-16M debris has splashed down into the Pacific," Roscosmos told Interfax-AVN.

Progress M-16M undocked from the ISS Pirs module at 5:12 p.m. in preparations for docking of the Progress M-18M to blast off Baikonur at 6:41 p.m. Moscow time on February 11.

Before the spaceship undocked, the astronauts uninstalled every piece of valuable equipment and loaded the ship with ISS waste.

The spaceship practically burned down in its dive through dense layers of the atmosphere. Only high melting parts reached the Spaceship Cemetery, a no-shipping zone approximately 3,000 kilometers away from New Zealand.
