Makhachkala ship joins Caspian Flotilla

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Makhachkala small artillery ship of Project 21630 "Buyan" has joined the Caspian Flotilla, the Southern Military District Staff reports.

"Before the arrival at the Caspian base from the Baltic Sea, the crew is learning the daily routine and preparing the ship for the trip and combat missions," says the report obtained by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

The sailors will practice air defense, artillery and missile shooting at air-, sea- and coastal-based targets, as well as solo and joint maneuvering.

The Makhachkala is the third ship of Project "Buyan". "It was designed for the Caspian Sea by its tactical and technical parameters," the report said.

The ship carries the A-190 100-millimeter artillery system on its nose, two AK-306 30-millimeter six-barrel guns and the Grad-M 122-millimeter 40-barrel rocket launcher. It is capable of damaging enemy ships and coastal structures to clear the ground for landing missions. "The ship architecture meets the low radar visibility requirement (stealth technology) - it has slanting flat deck structures, splash boards, sunk doors and hatches and no portholes," the report said.
