N. Korea entitled to carry out nuclear tests as non-NPT signatory - Iranian foreign minister

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - As North Korea has withdrawn from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, it is entitled to take any steps to protect its interests, including carry out nuclear tests, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in commenting on reports that North Korea has carried out another nuclear test.

"Iran and North Korea are independent states, and each country follows its own way. North Korea, as far as I know, has withdrawn from the NPT, and so it can allow itself act in its interests," Salehi said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

"Iran treats its membership of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons very seriously," he added.
