MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Russia is willing to discuss possible steps in response to North Korea's new nuclear test with its UN Security Council partners, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told Interfax on Tuesday.
"In practical terms, we will be prepared, along with our partners, to take part in discussing a possible reaction to the event that has happened," Gatilov said.
At the same time, any UN Security Council steps "should not lead to the further escalation of tensions in the region," he said.
"We will be prepared to consider practically whatever is proposed. We have not so far received proposals from our partners on this account," Gatilov said.
"When this is on paper, then we will look at this practically," he said.
There is quite a tough package of sanctions already imposed on North Korea, Gatilov said. "If any other proposals come, then we will have to see closely what their nature is. It is too early to talk about this," he said.
