MAKHACHKALA. Feb 18 (Interfax) - A suspected militant was killed in an armed attack on policemen in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan on Saturday, a source at the Dagestani Interior Ministry told Interfax.
He said the armed incident happened near the village of Pervomaiskoye at approximately 6:30 p.m. when the police stopped a VAZ-21014 car for inspection.
"A man rushed out of the car, opened fire at the policemen and tried to escape into a forest. He was gunned down. One officer is injured. Details of the incident are being studied," the source said.
The Dagestani department of the Russian Investigative Committee confirmed the armed incident.
"The suspect is dead: judging by tentative information, he was a militant, a member of the Khasavyurt terrorist group. An investigative team is working on the crime scene," a department representative said.
