MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Serious abuses that have caused the state coffers about 1 billion rubles in damages have been uncovered in a check on the RusHydro hydroelectricity company (RTS: HYDR), conducted by the Interior Ministry's Main Department for Economic Security and for Combating Corruption, the department's press service has reported.
General contractors would sign sham contracts with sub-contractors for reconstruction work and repairs for the suspected purpose of misappropriating RusHydro's resources, it said.
Also, a scheme of financing the construction of the Zagorskaya GAES-2 pumped storage hydro plant, involving shell firms, has been tracked down.
The general contractor Hydrostroy would conclude sham subcontractor deals with organizations under control, supposedly to perform construction work, and then the money transferred to their bank accounts would be cashed in and misappropriated, the department said.
