MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Two people suspected in terrorist activities in Uzbekistan have been arrested in the Moscow region, the press office of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs told Interfax on Tuesday.
"Employees of the Russian and Uzbek Ministries of Internal Affairs have arrested two Uzbek residents, who are active members of an international terrorist cell and who were wanted internationally on the suspicion of participating in terrorist activities in Uzbekistan," a spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
The Russian agency fighting extremism and its Uzbek colleagues were developing the so-called "underground" operation of this terrorist cell in Russia. The terrorist cell was recruiting members and sending them for sabotage and terrorist training to gangs on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the spokesperson said.
"It was determined that last year the detainees sent approximately 38 Uzbeks and over 18 natives from Central Asia as well as Russian residents from Moscow and Moscow region," the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Computers, copy machines, binding machines, and other book production equipment, many cell phones, wrestling equipment, religious, extremist, and terrorist brochures were seized during the search conducted at the detainees' residence. The two Uzbeks will remain in detention, while the issue of their extradition will be decided.
