MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Northern Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Vladimir Korolyov and British First Sea Lord Mark Stanhope have discussed military cooperation and interaction between the Russian and British fleets, the Northern Fleet's spokesman, Captain First Rank Vadim Serga, told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"The Northern Fleet and Royal Navy are bound by a long history of productive naval cooperation. In recent Russian history ships of the Northern Fleet have visited British ports ten times, including Liverpool, Portsmouth, Faslane, and Plymouth," Serga quoted Korolyov as saying.
Serga said that the British delegation has visited the Pyotr Veliky (Peter the Great) heavy nuclear missile cruiser and the Pantera nuclear submarine. Foreign guests had a tour of the cruiser to check out its battle capability, environment, and the crew's every-day life.
Serga said that the Royal Navy members would visit the Lenin Nuclear Icebreaker museum ship, docked permanently in the Russian city of Murmansk.
"This isn't the first visit by British First Sea Lord Admiral Mark Stanhope to the Northern Fleet. In 2012 he participated in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dervish convoy in Arkhangelsk," Serga said.
