MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Two gunmen have been killed near the administrative border between Chechnya and Ingushetia, a North Caucasus Federal District law enforcement source told Interfax.
"Armed fighters were detected during a search operation in a mountainous forested area near the administrative border on Friday. In an attempt to detain them, they offered armed resistance. Both gunmen were killed in an exchange of fire. Their identities have yet to be determined," he said.
There are reasons to presume that the dead gunmen are not ordinary members of illegal armed groups and could have been "ringleaders of a certain level," the source said.
