MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Poland is expecting Russia to hand over the wreckage of the plane, in which Polish President Lech Kaczynski and high-ranking officials died.
"We are expecting that the investigation of this airplane crash will be completed in the coming months and the Polish side will receive the wreckage of the plane, in which the Polish top-level officials died," head of the Polish delegation Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz said at the meeting of the Federation Council and State Duma international committees.
The return of the plane wreckage is "a symbolic issue, but simultaneously meaning a lot to Poland," Cimoszewicz said.
Three years have passed since the tragedy, he said. "But there still are a lot of unresolved issues. These are the completion of the crash investigation, the issue with the wreckage. It's impossible to open a new stage of relationship between us without it," Cimoszewicz said.
Cimoszewicz said that the Polish side was waiting for "this painful stage to be finally completed."
The Polish parliament was ready to look for "positive common items and things" connecting Russia and Poland, Cimoszewicz said.
Regarding Russian-Polish border cooperation, he said that there were "no prospects for the future in this part of Europe" without this.
The Polish Tu-154 plane with the Polish official delegation headed by the president, Lech Kaczynski on board crashed outside the city of Smolensk on April 10, 2010. The Polish delegation was going to Katyn to participate in commemorating events. A total of 96 people - 88 passengers and eight crew - died.
Poland has been demanding that Russia return the wreckage of the presidential plane, while Moscow said that it would be possible only after the investigation is completed.
