Iranian delegation chief hopes for successful talks in Almaty

ASTANA. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev received Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili at his residence in Almaty on Monday.

Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan, as the host of the talks [on Iran' nuclear program] hopes a compromise will be achieved and serious progress made in settling the current disagreements, the presidential press service has reported.

Jalili thanked the Kazakh president for the opportunity to hold a regular round of talks in Almaty and said they will hopefully be a success.

Almaty was selected to host talks on Iran's nuclear program because Kazakhstan maintains neutrality on this issue, the presidential press service said in a statement. "Also, our republic is the recognized leader of the global movement against nuclear weapon proliferation and has proposed initiatives on ways to build a nuclear-free world," it said.

The talks will start in Almaty on February 26.
