Over 800 kilos of drugs seized in Kazakhstan in 2013 - Interior Ministry

ASTANA. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Some 833 kilograms of narcotics, among them over 32 kilograms of heroin, were seized in Kazakhstan in January-February 2013, the Kazakh Interior Ministry's Anti-Drug Committee reported on Wednesday.

"The police exposed 690 drug-related crimes, including 403 distribution crimes, within two months… More than 833 kilograms of narcotics, among them 32,350 grams of heroin, were seized," the report said.

Meanwhile, the number of drug addicts in the republic declined from over 46,000 in 2011 to 40,000 in 2012, which was 0.1% of the entire population.

The Anti-Drug Committee performed the first stage of Operation Doping on February 18-22 to stop smuggling and illegal distribution of drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors.
