ALMATY. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The P5+1 will refrain for some time from making public the essence of its proposals to Iran so that Tehran can mull them over, says EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
Speaking at a press conference in Almaty in summing up outcomes of two-day talks with Iran on Wednesday, Ashton noted that there are some aspects that require technical expert analysis to discuss what these proposals are about.
When the P5+1 and Iran meet again next time, they will have the opportunity to discuss Iran's response to these proposals, she said.
Ashton admitted that there have been a lot of rumors concerning proposals made to Iran, and some of them surprised her. She insisted, however, that the talks with Iran are a very serious process, and the international mediators take them seriously.
Ashton said Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili and she had a bilateral meeting earlier on Wednesday, and there were also some meetings on Tuesday to discuss how the process should move ahead.
The P5+1 and Iran agree that the international community should have confidence in this program, Ashton said, adding that she hoped the next meeting would signal that Iran considered these proposals and is making efforts toward progress, she said.
"I hope that the Iranian side is looking positively on the proposals we put forward," Ashton told reporters.
"The proposals we put forward are designed to build confidence and enable us to move forward," she said.
Ashton said she was pleased to hear from Jalili that he took a positive view of the Almaty talks.
