MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Peter the Great Academy of the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces (RVSN) has been re-subordinated to the RVSN commander. Previously it was subordinated directly to the Defense Ministry's military education department, RVSN Spokesman Col. Igor Yegorov told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"In accordance with the defense minister's order, the RVSN's Military Academy will be subordinated directly to the RVSN commander from March 1," Yegorov said.
The academy trains personnel for the command and engineering segment in a wide spectrum of science-intensive military-technical specialties. It also trains personnel for other law enforcement ministries and agencies.
Twenty-four scientific schools are combined within the academy, staffed by 157 researchers with a doctorate decree and 709 with the candidate of sciences degree.
Yegorov said that the Peter the Great Academy and its Serpukhov branch have increased enrollment by more than 15 times compared to 2012. About 1,200 cadets are expected to be admitted this year.
