Pacific Fleet unit ends anti-piracy mission, returning to Vladivostok

VLADIVOSTOK. March 4 (Interfax) - A Pacific Fleet unit led by the Marshal Shaposhnikov large anti-sub ship has finalized an anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden and is returning to base.

"The Marshal Shaposhnikov, the Irkut medium-sized sea tanker and the Alatau tugboat are due to arrive in Vladivostok in the end of April," the Eastern Military District press service of the Pacific Fleet reported on Monday.

The ships are in order and the sailors are in good health and preparedness.

While performing their mission and developing international contacts, the ships visited Mumbai in late 2012 to take part in the Indra 2012 Russian-Indian exercises and paid a visit to the Iranian port of Bandar-e-Abbas to replenish reserves, the report said.

In February 2013 the Marshal Shaposhnikov visited the Seychelles and paid the first-ever visit to the Tanzanian port of Dar es Salaam to stage a demonstration anti-piracy exercises.

The Russian ships will visit the Malaysian island of Langkawi on March 26-30, in the period of holding of the Lima 2013 international arms show.

The South Korean port of Busan will be last stopover of the Pacific Fleet unit on the way to Vladivostok. The visit will last from April 14 to 18.
