Dutch Navy commander tours Peter Veliky nuclear-powered cruiser

SEVEROMORSK. March 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Netherlands Navy Vice Admiral Matthieu Borsboom toured Severomorsk, the main base of the Russian Northern Fleet, on Tuesday, the Northern Fleet spokesman Captain First Rank Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"Vice Admiral Matthieu Borsboom met with the Northern Fleet Admiral Vladimir Korolyov to discuss the issues of international military cooperation. The delegation toured nuclear-powered cruiser Pyotr Veliky and Orel (Eagle) submarine as well," Serga said.

Serga said that the Dutch delegation would also tour the first nuclear-powered icebreaker Lenin and the Defenders of the Arctic memorial complex.

In 1994 the Northern Fleet ships visited the Rotterdam port and ships of the Dutch navy participated in the active phase of the Pomor 1994 military and naval drills.

In the past few years, Russian and Dutch ships have regularly performed tasks to ensure the safety of civil navigation in the Gulf of Aden and along the Horn of Africa. The Russian and Dutch sailors participate in the active phase of the international search and rescue exercise to help crew of submarines that are in distress.
