Freed German reporter handed over to German diplomats - Russia diplomat

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Russian diplomats in Syria have handed over German reporter Billy Six, freed by Syrian authorities with Russia's mediation, to German diplomats in Beirut, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has announced.

The German citizen was handed over on Tuesday on the Syrian-Lebanese border, Lukashevich said in answers posted on the ministry's website.

Six was earlier handed over to the Russian ambassador to Syria at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, where he had meals and a rest, Lukashevich said.

"I would like to say in this connection that the Syrian authorities had found the German citizen at our request after our German partners asked for assistance," Lukashevich said.

"This humanitarian action was a success in the current tense situation in Syria," he said.

The Syrian information agency SANA reported earlier that the Syrian authorities had handed over German reporter Billy Six to a Russian diplomat in Damascus after he was detained in late December for illegally crossing into Syria.
