New-generation defense satellites to be heavy-duty, resistant to jamming

HANOVER, Germany. March 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Zheleznogorsk Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) is developing new-generation defense satellites, ISS General Designer and Director Nikolai Testoyedov told Interfax-AVN at the CeBIT 2013 digital and telecom technology show in Hanover.

"The new-generation defense satellites are being developed in line with main international trends. First of all, they have a higher capacity. Besides, they need to have a high-intensity output so that ground-based receivers are more compact," Testoyedov said.

Telecom defense satellites "are using new bands, Ka-band included," he noted.

"Support to the mobility of troops and command and higher jamming resistance are other requirements. That is a condition of our development works," Testoyedov said.

Information Satellite Systems is modernizing ground stations for the Defense Ministry, he said. "That is done because signals, conditions and the life itself are changing," Testoyedov explained.
