Four illegal casinos closed in Moscow

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Four illegal casinos have been closed in Moscow, city police economic security and anti-corruption department spokesperson Irina Volk told Interfax.

"Our officers checked four casinos and 90 Internet clubs and bookmaker offices within four days," Volk said.

The illegal premises were well guarded and visitors were admitted only by password or recommendation of regular clients, she noted.

"In spite of the multilevel security system, detectives visited the casinos under the player disguise. They had to call for SOBR backup to stop the illegal operations," Volk said.

Gambling equipment was impounded and administrative charges were brought. A number of individuals and legal entities will be fined.

The city police have made 280 inspections since the year beginning and five criminal cases have been opened. Some 205 administrative offenses have been exposed and over 8,000 pieces of gambling equipment have been seized, Volk said.
