TBILISI. March 11 (Interfax) - The Georgian Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday, reaffirming the country's commitment to further promoting its strategic partnership with the United States and the European Union and seeking integration into NATO.
The document, which was supported both by the parliamentary majority and the opposition, says that Georgia "will never have diplomatic relations and join military-political or customs unions with the countries that have recognized Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region as independent states or have occupied the territory of Georgia."
The 19-point resolution also confirms that Georgia will continue developing its democratic institutions and seek to settle conflicts exclusively by peaceful methods with the help of the international community.
"Georgia will hold its dialogue with Russia both as part of the Geneva process using international mechanisms and in the bilateral format. This dialogue is aimed at resolving the conflict and establishing and promoting good neighborly relations," the document says.
Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili said that the decision of both the parliamentary majority and the opposition to support this document "gives hope that coordinated solutions will be formulated to other important issues facing Georgia as well."
