Drug cartel led by Mexican neutralized in Nicaragua with Russia's assistance

NOVO-OGARYOVO. March 11 (Interfax) - A major drug cartel has been stamped out in Nicaragua in an operation involving officers of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN), FSKN director Viktor Ivanov has announced

"A major cartel led by a Mexican, a certain Martin Flores, working for the benefit of the Mexican Los Zetas cartel, was neutralized with our information and technical support," he said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

He said that the operation against the drug cartel was conducted at the beginning of March together with Nicaraguan law enforcers.

"The cartel has now established close ties with European criminals in delivering cocaine not only to Europe but also to Russia. We are looking out for immigrants from the Russian Federation who will be jointly monitored with the Nicaraguan security service," Ivanov said.
