Russia, U.S. closer stance on Syria could help stop bloodshed in Syria - Syrian activist

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Heisam Manaa, a member of the administration of the Syrian National Coordination Committees (internal opposition), believes that if Russia and the United States reached agreements on the Syrian issue it would help put pressure on the leaders of the Syrian opposition to cause them to stop the violence in the country.

"If Russia and the U.S. reach some agreements, we can begin putting real pressure on the Islamist leaders, which will put an end to the violence," Manaa said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.

Manaa was generally positive about the results of the meeting, pointing out the need for more frequent contacts for an exchange of points of view between Russia and the Syrian opposition on ways of resolving the conflict in Syria.

Manaa said the meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry officials had addressed the supply of weapons to the parties of the conflict and the possibility of Syria turning into a parliamentary republic in the future.
