KHABAROVSK. March 11 (Interfax) - A T-80 tank has lethally hit a senior lieutenant in the Bikinsky garrison in the Khabarovsk territory, the Eastern Military District department of the Russian Investigative Committee reported on Monday.
"A criminal case was opened under Russian Criminal Code Article 350, Part 2 [incorrect handling of a combat vehicle leading to death by negligence]. An officer regulating tank traffic is the suspect," the report said.
Tanks were lining up before the march to base on the training range of the Military Unit No. 46102 at about 10 a.m. on March 1, 2013. A tank in reverse hit the senior lieutenant. A conscript was at the controls, and a captain was regulating the traffic, detectives said.
"The officer died instantaneously," the report said.
Military investigators are probing the incident details.
