TBILISI. March 12 (Interfax) - Georgian Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to ask for a closer look at Georgia.
"We are witnessing the dictatorship of Saakashvili being replaced with Ivanishvili's dictatorship. Hence, we have sent a letter to the UN Secretary General requesting an analysis of the Georgian situation," Natelashvili told reporters on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili seeks to minimize presidential powers, and to even elect the president at the parliament rather than in a universal vote, he said.
"At the same time, the Georgian constitution does not limit the period of premiership of the same person. It may happen so that Ivanishvili hands over this position to his son many years later," Natelashvili said.
Meanwhile, Ivanishvili said in a recent interview that direct elections of the Georgian president were mandatory. He also repeated the earlier promise to resign in 18-24 months upon the achievement of stabilization.
