NOVOSIBIRSK. March 13 (Interfax) - Novosibirsk residents will witness the flight of two-tailed comet C/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS) this and early next week, a source at the Siberian State Geodesic Academy Planetarium told Interfax on Wednesday.
The comet will be visible above Novosibirsk from March 13 through 20 with the best viewing conditions on Friday night.
"The spectacular comet can be seen with a naked eye in good weather. According to the forecasts, weather will be fair on Friday," she said.
The comet will be moving from the northwest and be seen along Novosibirsk's latitude.
"The bright spot beneath the Moon will be the comet, and its two tails can be seen through a telescope. Comets are rather rare visitors. This one flies past the Earth once in every 100,000 years," the source said.
The comet is moving at a long distance and does not endanger the Earth, she said.
