Russian diplomat rules out unlawful issuance of official passports

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Ministry Special Ambassador Anvar Azimov rules out a situation in which the wrong people could be unlawfully provided with official passports that would entitle them to travel to the EU without visas in the near future.

"I rule out that it would ever be possible that official passports could be issued undeservedly. Involvement of mediating organizations in this process is impossible. No official passports can be issued through mediating organizations. Requests are made, and then people known at the consulate department and who are duly authorized come to us and go through the process. People receiving biometric official passports must be present personally, they are interviewed, photographed, then their passport is made, and then everything is checked thoroughly," Azimov said on Dozhd television channel.

"I believe the Foreign Ministry is a place where honest people work," he said.
