SALEKHARD. March 14 (Interfax) - An unidentified man shooting at a passersby from a window in the community of Gubkinsky, the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district has been killed by security forces, local media have reported citing witnesses.
Posts about shooting victims and the shooter's killing appeared earlier in local social networks, but security services have so far refrained from officially commenting on them.
Witnesses claimed that an unidentified man started shooting from windows at about 9:00 a.m. local time and was later killed by a sniper.
The Gubkinsky police department's press service declined comments, and an officer on duty told Interfax only that "the FSB [Federal Security Service] is conducting an operation."
The FSB department for the Tyumen region has also declined to comment on the incident.
The town administration's civil defense and emergency situations department told Interfax the local FSB department was conducting a training exercise, but a source from security services speaking to Interfax on condition of anonymity denied that this was an exercise.
