KALININGRAD. March 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Yantar shipyard has completed all stages of sea trials of the third Type 1135.6 frigate that the Kaliningrad-based facility has contracted to build for India, its press secretary Sergei Mikhailov has told Interfax.
"On Thursday, the crew of the Baltic Fleet and the transfer team successfully completed the sea stage of the trials of the frigate Trikand (Bow). In the Baltic Sea the ship successfully went through all the checks of components, mechanisms and equipment," he said.
He said that during the sea trials the crew carried out diverse tasks, including fire practice from various types of arms and tested the ability of the frigate to host a helicopter.
Now the crew will have a short time to prepare for state sea trials that are also due in the Baltic Sea.
The transfer of the Trikand to the Indian Navy is planned for summer.
The $1.6 billion contract to build the three ships was signed in Delhi on July 14, 2006.
The first of the three, The Teg (Saber), was transferred to the customer at the end of April 2012, the second - The Tarkash (Quiver) in November 2012.
Yantar belongs to the Western Ship-Building Center operating major shipyards in West, Northwest and Central Russia.
It specializes in the construction of warships and civilian vessels of various classes with a launch weight of up to 10,000 tonnes and in ship-repair. It has built over 100 big and about 400 small civilian vessels and repaired over 430 naval and civilian vessels.
