Putin, Ban confirm conflict settlement must be based on intl law - Peskov

SOCHI. May 20 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon have discussed the settlement of the Syrian problem in detail, as well as the situation in the Korean peninsula, confirming that all conflicts must be based on international law.

"Putin and Ban held an in-depth exchange of views and detailed review of the basic international issues. The Syrian settlement was thoroughly discussed, as well," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday.

Putin "informed the UN secretary general in detail about his latest contacts with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," he said.

Putin also spoke about contacts with the presidents of Egypt and South Africa, and about Russia's position on Syria, he added.

There was an exchange of views on the situation in the Korean peninsula and on international relations as a whole, Peskov said.

"Both parties said that all peace and settlement processes should be based on international law. This has no alternative," Peskov said.
