NALCHIK. May 20 (Interfax-AVN) - A base of militants has been found in the zone of a counter-terrorist operation in Kabardino-Balkaria, the Kabardino-Balkaria operative staff reported on Sunday.
"A base of militants suitable for long-term accommodation of five men was found in woody highlands, northeast of the village Bedyk," the report said.
The counter-terrorist operation started at 3:45 p.m. on May 18 in a part of the Elbrus municipal district in order to prevent terror attacks, to ensure security of citizens and organizations and to detain militants, the operative staff said.
The counter-terrorist operation is in progress.
A source in the Kabardino-Balkaria law enforcement authorities told Interfax on Sunday the police were searching for a gang that fled after a short clash.
"There is information that two or four militants were engaged in the clash. The search for the militants was suspended until dawn. It will continue on Sunday morning with the purpose of their liquidation," the source said.
The counter-terrorist operation regime was endorsed by the head of the Kabardino-Balkaria division of the Federal Security Service in a part of the Elbrus district between the Kara-Tyube and Jerklikol stows and the A158 route excluding the village Bedyk.
