Russian air defense units finished live fire exercise at Volga training range

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Air defense crews of the motorized infantry brigade of the Southern Military District have finished a Tor-MU live fire exercise.

"Tor-MU systems destroyed over 20 imaginary enemy airborne targets at altitudes of two to twelve kilometers at the Kapustin Yar training range in the Astrakhan region. Hardware is being given maintenance and prepared for the march to base in the Volgograd region," says a report of the Southern Military District press service received by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

Tor-MU systems were supplied to the district under the state defense procurement program in the end of 2012.

Officers and soldiers were trained for 3.5 months at an air defense training center in the Krasnodar territory. They studied tactical and technical characteristics and basics of operation and combat use of the new air defense launchers.

Tor-MU of the Almaz-Antei Concern destroys planes, helicopters, drones, guided missiles and other high-precision weapons flying at near-ground level altitudes under any weather conditions.

It can track and lock up to several dozen airborne targets at a range of up to 30 kilometers and destroy four targets simultaneously at an altitude of up to ten kilometers. The Tor-MU electronic brain selects targets by the degree of danger and suggests the sequence of their destruction to the crew.
