MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will not take part in the new Indian tender for 100 armored personnel carriers, a source in the Russian defense industry told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"Rosoboronexport has decided not to make a bid because Russian armored personnel carriers fail to meet certain technical specifications and it would be inexpedient to modify them for the Indian Defense Ministry's needs," he said.
He said that Russia's BTR-80 and BTR-90 armored personnel carriers were one of the world's best.
U.S. General Dynamics, Russian Rosoboronexport, Ukrainian Ukrspetsexport, Polish Bumar, Italian Finmeccanica and some other contestants took part in the first tender, which was later annulled.
The procurement cost is $377 million. Armored personnel carriers are supposed to be delivered with large amounts of ammunition.
