Russia does not plan new weapons contracts with Syria - Ushakov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Russia does not plan to sign any new military contracts with Syria in connection with the EU decision to lift the embargo on the supply of weapons to the Syrian opposition, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told a briefing on Friday, responding to a question as to whether Russia intends to sign any additional contracts with Syria after the EU makes its decision.

"As far as I know, Russia does not intend to sign any new contracts," Ushakov told reporters.

Commenting on the numerous media publications on the alleged supply of the first batch of S-300 systems to Syria, Ushakov said: "I would not like to comment on these specifics: the first batch or the second. I don't know what batches we are talking about."

"The contracts were once signed [with Syria] on the most modern types of weapons and these contracts are being fulfilled in due course," Ushakov said.

Ushakov reiterated that "Russia is not supplying any weapons that fall under appropriate international bans."
