GENEVA. June 5 (Interfax) - Members of the Russian delegation who have arrived in Geneva for a three-party meeting between Russian, U.S., and UN officials to discuss the preparations for a conference on Syria will also meet with Syrian opposition activists, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said.
"We are also working with them [the opposition] actively and we are hoping that we will even meet with some opposition activists in Geneva tomorrow," he told Interfax.
The Russian delegation in the three-party meeting in Geneva will be led by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Gennady Gatilov.
Bogdanov also said Russia is hoping for effective work by the U.S. and other influential forces, including Arab and Turkish partners, to convince Syrian opposition activists to begin negotiations with the Syrian government.
Bogdanov also said Russia would like the U.S. to use its influence on countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia to make them adopt a more constructive stance on the Syrian crisis.
