BISHKEK. June 5 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has appointed Police Maj. Gen. Busurmankul Tabaldiyev chairman of the Kyrgyz National Security Committee, relieving him of his duties as secretary of the Kyrgyz Defense Council, the presidential press service told Interfax on Wednesday.
Atambayev also relieved Beishenbai Zhunusov of his duties as National Security Committee chief due to his transfer to another job.
Speaking on June 1, Prime Minister Zhantoro Satybaldiyev accused the special services for the opposition's protests in Jalal-Abad and for the seizure of the regional administration building, claiming that they failed to properly respond to the people's discontent and preempt these events.
Following these statements, local pundits predicted Zhunusov's dismissal.
Tabaldiyev has extensive experience of service in Soviet and then Kyrgyz security agencies.
